Gold rush

The rocks never end. The teepee tents all around them. All that I can smell is the vast dry landscape. The sticks clicking against the rocks as we walk along the hill. This is the gold rush.

My AVATAR!!!!!!

This week we have started the first challenge on the Student Blogging Challenge. The challenge is to make an avatar to represent you and your personality. I chose this avatar because my favourite thing to do is play soccer and futsal. I also tried to make it look as much like me as possible. This is my avatar.

Solar Circuit!

Ding, and the lights are on. The last couple of weeks Dan and I have been working on a solar/ passive energy house. First we had to choose some land. Dan and I chose some land in Byron Bay. Then we had choose where we wanted to put our house and why we put it there. After that we needed to build a house out of a shoe box. Daniel and I only had one hour as we were on camp. Then we made a video and explained why we made passive houses and explain what we put on our house. The next day we made a circuit for the solar system on the roof. Daniel and I were first finished so we put a light switch on. It worked so well.

Dynamite

What a loooong night. The biggest concert ever. Last night the whole school had to perform a dance.
Our class performed the song Dynamite. In performing arts we have Mrs Coote. We had to choose a song, our class chose Dynamite. We started making up moves but the moves didn’t suit the song so we followed the Just Dance disc. After we got the hang of the moves we started doing it without watching the Just Dance video. Our class decided that the ending on the disc wasn’t very good, so close to the end we all got into a semi circle and some people got to do tricks. I was allowed to do a trick. My trick was juggling a soccer ball with my feet.

I felt nervous and happy before the performance because of the effort we put in to be able to perform in front of the school and parents. We had to practice the dance for months. I was also proud because I was chosen to juggle the ball. During the dance I felt nervous because I knew I had to juggle in front of the school but at the end I was so happy that I didn’t mess up my juggling. In the school practice I messed up and the ball almost rolled off the stage.

Buddy Book!¿

For the last term the grade 5’s have been working on books for our new prep buddy’s. I have two buddy’s. Rhys and Elija. My book is called Brian the Terrible Bear. We had to write a book on our iPads and then print. We put the writing in the books and then illustrate According to the what the writing said. We had to do this as a present and a welcoming for our buddy’s. I liked illustrating the book and writing because you could write anything you want. Something that I will do differently next time would be to cut some pages because I have a couple to many pages in my book.

Global Effect!

Today we had a very knowledgeable lady come in and tell us about climate change. Her name was Ceri a meteorologist and a climatologist. Cows are a big threat to climate change as when they fart there is methane coming out. Humans are the biggest threat to the CO2 in the atmosphere because of big factories letting out pollution ect.

There are numbers of gasses in the air that are effecting climate change such as methane, greenhouse and CO2. Global warming is happening now and is true. There is lots of proof that it is happening, 97% of scientists have proof that humans are the biggest threats to global warming and that it is real. Only 3% of scientists think it is a load of rubbish. But those scientists are getting payed by petrol company’s or are a different science specialist.

There’s proof of climate change off photos, graphs, ice caps melting and oceans are getting warmer. In the big scheme of things 1 or 2 degrees warmer does not make a big difference to us but to animals and plants that is like 30 degrees warmer. Farming cattle is bad to the atmosphere because they fart and create methane. So if we stop eating so much red meat we don’t have as much cow which means not as much methane in the air.

So now you know what happens when pollute our air. So try and do something different in your every day life. EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS!!!

Water, Water, Water!¿?

Wow, I never realised how precious water is. Water is being wasted every day and you don’t even know. Today we had a western water presentation. It was great learning how important water is. 5 litres of water will go down the drain in 5 seconds when you have a shower that is heaps.
We had to make an argument on a curtain topic. My group had to explain why we should use lunch containers instead of plastic bags. We had to act as we were in court and present it to the judge. In our group was Lauren Darcy and myself. I learnt that Queensland has a keep it clean day and it is just using lunch boxes for a whole day at school.
I learnt that a 1 litre disposable plastic bottle of water cost $2 and up to $7 at the footy, cricket ect. Where as you can have 725 glasses of water at home and it only cost 10c. That is so cheap.20161110-104843.jpg
